Salmon Elvis Recovered

July 2005

Last year while on a Main Salmon trip in July, after all the regular foamies that I had brought along escaped, I constructed SalmonElvis from some driftwood, foam scraps and a chopstick.

I wrote on his boat where and when he had been made and launched him off a 100 foot cliff overhanging Sheep Creek, about a mile and a half above the mouth of the creek.  I managed to capture about 20 seconds of SalmonElvis running the Sheep Creek GNAR before losing sight of him downstream.  I spent the rest of the evening in an unsuccessful search to recover my new friend.  I figured that would be the last I ever heard or saw of SalmonElvis.

Well earlier this week I recieved an email from a couple from Utah who had recovered SalmonElvis on their recent trip down the Salmon.

They found him in the rocks above the high water mark just downstream from the mouth of Sheep Creek.

They allowed him to party with them overnight at thier lower Sheep Creek camp before launching him back into the creek from the packbridge just upstream from the creeks mouth.  "I" and "A" (the couple who found him) added a notation to his right rear deck as to where and when they had found him.  Unfortunately, SalmonElvis once again escaped from human captivity to paddle free and on his own.

Below are the pictures that my new friends from Utah sent me of my long lost compadre.  Man, these foamie boaters are a wild bunch.
